Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
My biggest flu for modern smartphones is that they are very complex. This was true before the chatbots became the new thing, but the generator has only accelerated the problem. Samsung is first of the blocks with its solution: a BIXBY repurposed at the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Bloat feature is a real problem. Yeardo new tools are released to grab some titles and allegedly make your life easier. I will allow your current cynicism level to decide which one you think is most important for smartphone manufacturers.
Samsung has long been one of the worst offenders for this, as I explained in a story two years ago.
“Innovative features are definitely, after all, a good thing. They are the highlight of the years of development of features and software refining. It’s not just Samsung fighting this, it applies to most smartphone manufacturers, but Samsung has long been the de facto industry innovator (remember the ‘smart pause’ cheat of the Galaxy S5 that stopped videos if you would watch away from the screen?).
“Because of this, Samsung phones feel heavy with features and loaded with opportunities that will never be explored by most users.”
The Korean company is also the first to try and deal with the problem. Bixby has been reburied as an help that answers questions about the Galaxy S25, and in some cases, meets actions. For some annoying reasons, this announcement was buried during the beginning. For my mind, Bixby’s new job is one of the next updates for Samsung’s upcoming apparatus.
The idea seems to be that Bixby will be able to complete most tasks in a Galaxy S25 with natural language requirements. “Thing anything that can be done with touch can be done [with your voice] From Bixby, ”Lee Dinham, Mobile experience specialist in Samsung, told me.

Bixby’s new role at Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra
Trying this, I have been surprised how well this works in practice. Simple things, such as Bixby’s search for the screen glow down, work and do so quickly. In addition, much more advanced Gemini fought with most of the demands that Bixby treated easily. Here is a selection of questions I have made Bixby over the past two weeks. Note: Bixby activated by saying his name.
- “Pale shine”. This worked.
- “I want to set the face recognition.” I opened my face recognition configuration
- “Edit Auto this picture.” Added “my chosen filter” despite having never chosen one. This can be torn down by first choosing a filter as your default.
- “How can I improve this picture?” When looking at the photo in the Samsung Gallery app, she opened the image editing suite. On Google Photos gave me a step -by -step guide and suggested to use the intelligent optimism function.
- “I want to share my data with another device. How do I do them?” Gave me a quick guide to a pop -up. I then asked her to do it, and she opened the corresponding setting, but I didn’t directly finish the action. The Thello here is that I asked to do something without clearly naming the function. This is important for people who do not know their way around these phones. Gemini gave me a shortened Google search.
- “Open the camera and get a selfie.” Completed this quickly with a (uncompromising) timer.
Slightly more difficult questions
- “Put the gmail and the browser on the separate screen.” Completed. The twins opened Gmail but did not create a separate screen.
- “Get a screen view?” Both Gemini and Bixby got a screen view.
- “Get a video and do 4k.” Both Bixby and Gemini started registration, but could not even meet both requirements.
- “Make the text on my screen a little bigger but not too big.” (This tests the meaning of it for relative adjustments) Bixby understood this and adjusted a little bit the size of the letters. This is great for access.
- “Find the setting that allows me to change the animation when my alarm turns off.” Bixby told me how to do it, but I couldn’t really complete the task. The contextual conversation needs some work because as I went back and forth with him, I said “Change the animation background” and it opened galactic themes to change my phone background.
- “Tell me all the ways I can fix the lock screen.” (Test his knowledge of all the features of the phone) Bixby told me how to adjust the lock screen and where to go. I also opened the option when I asked it, but it didn’t go through the options. This can be a bridge too far for any mobile one.
- “Share this picture with Ed on WhatsApp.” Bixby finished this.
The results are mixed but promising. Clearly, the most complex multimodal requirements still need work. Is also slow. In some cases it is quickly to complete actions with a tap than your voice. But this is Samsung’s first right attempt in the one that focuses only on the device. If the company climbs it, Bixby can become an essential part of the Galaxy experience.
Bixby’s new skills as a help focused only on the device questions are completely different from those offered by Gemini, Chatgpt and Apple Intelligence. It is not the sexy side of him, you will not generate an image of your cat as the pottus sat behind the set table, but you will find out how to turn on the hot removable point.
This is not only important for detecting traits, but also access. People who struggle to operate phones with their fingers have a legitimate alternative. The same goes for people who are not spared technology and are overloaded by the complexity of modern equipment.
Throughout this, Bixby is completing some tasks on the device instead of sending your questions to the Cloud, Samsung says. The company gives examples of taking a screenshot and setting up a timer, with everything else sent to a processing server. I do not have a complete list of any action that is completed on the device, but if Samsung can migrate all processing away from the Cloud in future omissions, then this would only improve Bixby’s credential paper.
If the extension of the removable one is refining this feature and keeping it completely on the device, to the point of understanding and meeting any requirements related to the use of the phone, then I will be an evangelist of it. Why? Because there is a clear case, in the real world, use here at the Samsung Galaxy S25 ultra missing in rival chatbots.
